Luca van Beek
Our Chief Engineer, Luca, decided to join Project MARCH for the reason that she wanted to challenge herself to manage a large scale project. Thanks to her background in Industrial Design Engineering, Luca has the skills to establish design processes and to evaluate concepts. Additionally, she knows how to brainstorm and think from a consumer’s perspective. Along with Luca’s enthusiasm, curiosity and open-mindedness, these skills make for an admirable Chief Engineer.
The Chief Engineer bears final responsibility for the technical quality of the exoskeleton. The various tasks that come with this responsibility include maintaining an overview of the project in the long-term and making sure that the innovations from different departments are integrated smoothly. This means that Luca visits the departments often and offers them a perspective from a holistic point of view. As Luca has to make choices based on the amount of time and money we have and the quality we want to accomplish, she uses the 5 times why method to keep us on track, making sure that everyone stays focused on the team goal.
Luca very much looks forward to the moment the exoskeleton comes together as a whole, and thereby pushing the boundaries of exoskeleton technology yet again. Her personal goal for this year is to discover if the function of Chief Engineer fits her, and to learn how to be a good system architect. In the future, she aims to create technical solutions for societal problems, with a special interest in the medical and environmental fields.
